About
Where Grace Meets Purpose
At Tejasvi Natyalaya, dance is not just an art — it is a way of being.
Rooted in the rich tradition of Bharatanatyam, we offer a space where culture, strength, and creativity come together to ignite the inner flame in every dancer. Whether you're a child taking your first steps, a working professional rediscovering your passion, or a dance enthusiast wanting to resume this art, Tejasvi Natyalaya is a place where movement transforms into meaning.
Our approach combines rigorous classical training with a nurturing, empowering environment, celebrating both the technical brilliance and spiritual depth of Bharatanatyam. Students explore not only adavus and jathis, but also the stories, philosophy, and rasa that bring each piece to life.
We believe that dance can be both a disciplined practice and a joyful liberation — a way to express the self, embody tradition, and connect to a larger purpose.
Founder’s Note
From Medicine to Movement — A Journey of Healing and Light
Dr. Shobana Vankipuram is a physician, dancer, and educator whose life bridges the worlds of science and art.
Having trained in Bharatanatyam since the age of four under eminent Gurus - Smt. Chandrakala Jagannathan, Smt. Kalaivani Rajmohan, Smt. Jaya Mani. Dr. Shobana now actively pursues advanced training under the legendary Guru Smt. Shobana Bhalchandra along with enhancing her skills by attending workshops of renowned artists. She returned to the stage after years immersed in medicine, family, and leadership — and in doing so, found a new kind of radiance. Her journey back into classical dance, especially after navigating physical challenges, has deepened her belief that art is a form of healing and self-renewal.
Shobana founded Tejasvi Natyalaya to create a space where dancers of all ages and backgrounds — including women and working professionals — could reclaim their connection to culture and spirit through Bharatanatyam. Her teaching reflects a unique blend of precise technique, mindfulness, and emotional depth, inspired by her own teachers and life experiences.
As a physician leader and community advocate, as a former Board Member of Narika, she also brings a holistic, empowering perspective to her work — one that uplifts the mind, body, and soul.
What Tejasvi Means to Us
"Tejasvi" means luminous, radiant, full of inner fire.
At our school, that fire is kindled through movement, spirituality, and meaningful connection. We dance not just to perform — but to grow, to heal, to honor our roots, and to shine from within by channeling the Divine light.
Join us at Tejasvi Natyalaya — and let your light move you.
